Take Half

(2022-Present)

Take Half is an ongoing fine art photography series by Asheville-based photographer Adam Chapin, begun in 2022, built on a single deceptively simple premise: center the break.
In daily life, fairness is almost impossible to see. We cannot measure how much we have given in a relationship versus how much we have taken. We cannot quantify how much of a task we carried, how much of our potential we have honored, how much of our time we have spent well or wasted. The lines that would tell us are invisible, contested, or simply don’t exist.
But in photography, the line is right there. The crack in a sidewalk. The seam between a curb and the grass. A fence post dissolving into landscape. Align the break with the center of the frame, find a composition that is emotionally and formally balanced, and suddenly the world offers something it almost never does in real life — an honest, unambiguous half.
Take Half is not a series about photography. It is a series about the human need for equity in a world that rarely provides it, and the small, persistent satisfaction of finding it anyway — one perfectly divided frame at a time.
