Root Down

Tree trunks that are as 10-12 feet around with roots that should be firmly planted in the ground. Having been torn up, floated, and dropped off - with snapped limbs to stamp their passports. Edisto Island is a portal to somewhere else. It’s alien. And these roots shooting into the air made me think of reaching for something I may never attain, though reaching all the same. Turning the image and placing it in a context we know but a perspective that is still not what we expect, and it works…for me. Plus it reminds me of the classic Beastie Boys hit Root Down, hence the name.
