Navajo Code Talker (LIMITED EDITION)

So much of the western landscape in the United States stops you in your tracks, demands silence, and occasionally brings about a good story. Monument Valley is one of those places and as I sat there in my van, camera on tripod, watching the clouds drag across the sky in the heavy valley winds, waiting for the scene to empty and listening to a local Diné tell a couple he was touring that at the base of this massive drop is where all the locals get their free hats. They laughed. I laughed from afar. And then I made these photos.
