Zion National Park Altar of Sacrifice, Utah

Zion is a special place. I have visited twice. The first time, I was the most broken I have ever been as a human being and a climb to Angel’s Landing, where I nearly lost a fellow hiker to a slip and fall off a 1000’ cliff, helped to begin to steer me back to center. The second time, I was feeling free and getting to share this space and my love of it all with some dear friends. As we waited for the shuttle van to arrive, I walked around the corner of the welcome building to find a line of about 20 photographers right next to each other, tripods fixed and settings being queued. I stayed back on the sidewalk 30-40 yards behind them and shot this scene. Sometimes simple is all we need.
