Beautiful Fall Wedding at the Merrimon-Wynne House | Raleigh, NC | Sydney and Hunter

When I first met Sydney and Hunter, I knew that wedding photography was important to them. This was not just a checked box on a long list of wedding to-do's for them. It was important to find the right photographer, not just for photographic work but also for the relationship. Not only could I appreciate that, that is part of my creed as a photographer. That and they like good food, they like good drink, they are adventurous and they are two of the most welcoming people I have ever had the honor to meet.

Last week the three of us got together at a local mezcaleria (Gallo Pelon) as it is one of Sydney and Hunter's favorite places, and I love trying new food. We sat on the outdoor patio and they shared some photos and stories about their amazing honeymoon in Greece. It was at this point that I realized my next business venture, honeymoon photography, because that should be a thing, right? Anyway, we pulled the chairs around, cranked the volume and watched their wedding slideshow on my laptop. It was so awesome to hear the little sounds they made when seeing certain photos, to share some big laughs and watch them relive the moments they remembered and enjoy the moments that they may have missed. These are the times where I am most thankful for my job, simply seeing my couples happy, like a chef watching his/her diners enjoy their meal.

Needless to say their wedding day was a wonderful and a wet one (as most of this falls weddings have been) at the always gorgeous and inspiring Merrimon-Wynne House. Sydney and Hunter were game for all of my ideas, even jumping in the white clawfoot tub for some fun portraits. Which got me thinking to when we had our last get together right before the wedding and I let them know that at every wedding I like to take 15 minutes to do some experimental work. Just some ideas I may be batting around in my head and they may work and they may not, but for me it's playtime. To which Hunter emphatically said "Yes! I love the weird stuff!" So we tried some weird stuff and some of it worked out. Having that level of trust, that my couples will come to the edge with me and help me try and make them something completely unique, it's just humbling, and Sydney and Hunter did that in spades.
